Cloudia - Connection Reflections

Learning Goal

Cloudia teaches Relational Intelligence, or the idea that healthy connections aren't just measured by how often you see people, but by the quality of moments within those interactions. Designed for joint engagement between a children and a trusted caregiver, educator, or mental health professional. The inspiration for this app was Isabel Hau’s book Love to Learn.

Design Notes

The five dimensions Cloudia builds awareness of:

⭐ Star - Understanding. Recognizing when you feel truly seen by someone

🌙 Moon - Repair. Noticing that conflicts can be resolved with efforts

☀️ Sun - Warmth. Attuning to care and safety in everyday moments

💜 Heart - Reciprocity. Noticing turn-taking, mutual listening…not just broadcasting or one-way sharing

🌧 Rain - Tough moments. Naming difficulty without shame because hard moments are normal

The implicit goal is metacognition: children slow down, look back at their day, and name what happened in relational terms…which is a foundational social-emotional skill!

How to Interact

The interaction is a two-step ritual.

  1. Caregiver or educator can ask the questions listed under moment types (understanding, repair, warmth, reciprocity, and tough moment) one by one, and give the child some time to think and respond

  2. After the child is done sharing, have them tap the button they just answered the question for. The button will be highlighted and capture its “sticker”

  3. Child can place the sticker by tapping anywhere around Cloudia. The sticker lands where you tap, a confetti burst celebrates it, Cloudia bounces, and the stats bar below fills a little

Supporting interactions:

  • Milestones toast in from the top at 5, 10, 15, and 20 connection moments

  • The "New day" button resets everything leading to a clean slate ritual

  • The stats section gives a running visual summary with coloured progress bars per category

  • The interaction is non-verbal and low-pressure: there's no text to write, no right answer, no judgment. The child just places symbols!
