Coco McFrosty

Hello Lovelies,

Here's a story about the great cupcake reinvention!

Coco McFrosty lived right on Butter Lane in Makerville, three doors down from me. She was the most wonderful baker in town, a chocolate cupcake herself, with swirls of pink frosting, a cherry on top, and the cutest pink boots you ever saw.

But lately, Coco looked droopy.

"Oki," she sighed one afternoon, flour on her cheeks, "everyone in Makerville is moving so slowly! I think my sugar is making them sleepy and sluggish!"

I looked outside. Sure enough, half the town folk were napping on a bench, on the roofs, even on the tree?

We called Grandpa Underroot, who suggested wrapping cupcakes in spinach leaves like green blankets. Sillijoi the pencil sketched a wild plan involving bouncy beets as frosting, which just rolled everywhere and bonked Coco on the cherry. "Ouch!" she giggled.

Finally, Grandpa Underroot measured natural sweeteners like mashed banana and dates, I mixed them nicely, and Sillijoi designed the most beautiful new recipe cards.

Coco baked her first Banana-Date Bliss Cupcake and the whole town woke right up!

Love,

Oki Pie

Reflection Prompt

Coco felt frustrated and then super excited when her new cupcake worked! That is The Energy Loop for us today.

Step 1 - Movement: Shake your whole body like a cupcake fresh out of a bouncy oven! Wiggle your arms, stomp your pink-booted feet, and spin around once. Really feel that excited, fizzy energy!

Step 2 - Mark-making: Grab a crayon or marker, any color you love. Now make fast, swirly, zigzaggy marks all over your paper. Make them big! Make them wild! Let your hand move as fast as your excited feelings. There are no mistakes in Makerville!

Step 3 - Sensory Writing: Look at your marks. Now write or tell a grown-up three words answering this question: If your marks were a flavor, what would they taste like? And do they feel bumpy or smooth when you trace them with your finger?

Analog Design Challenge

Coco needs a brand new cupcake topper that shows everyone her cupcakes are now healthy and delicious! Can you build one?

Your Challenge: Design and build a cupcake topper or a cupcake display stand using found objects at home!

Materials to grab:

  • Toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls

  • Cardboard scraps or cereal boxes

  • Tape or glue

  • Leaves, dried flowers, or colorful paper scraps

  • Markers or crayons to decorate

The Prompt: Coco wants her new Banana-Date Bliss Cupcakes to look as amazing as they taste! Can you build a little display stand that holds one pretend cupcake up high for everyone to see? What healthy ingredient will you draw on your display sign? Can you make a flag out of a stick and paper that says "NEW AND YUMMY"?

Make it work with what you have. Coco believes in you!

Digital Design Challenge

Ready to go PRO like a Makerville Master Maker? Here is your digital challenge!

Your Challenge: Use an iPad, Procreate, or any drawing app to design a technical blueprint of Coco McFrosty's brand new Healthy Cupcake Display Stand. Label every single part like a real Makerville engineer!

What to include in your blueprint:

  • The base of the stand

  • The platform where the cupcake sits

  • A flag or sign showing the new healthy ingredients

  • Color coding for each material you would use

This is a Makerville Digital Arts challenge, inspired by the creative blueprint makers of Quillfeather Woods, where every drawing tells a story and every label is a work of art!

Safety Check: Ask a Grown-up Maker before using any new apps or tools on a device. Even the best engineers in Makerville always work with a buddy!
