Clovy - Nature Poetry
Clovy is a lucky clover character from Oki’s universe, who loves to spend time in nature and write poems. In the first offering of our poetry writing workshops, Clovy was just a mascot appearing on the marketing materials and intro of the workshop as an invitation to write. We held these workshops in public parks with beautiful views and asked participants to write in their notebooks, and gave them the open prompt to write based on anything they observe. While this method worked for some participants, many found the open-ended writing prompt challenging. To ease participants into writing poems, Clovy app helped participants shift their attention to reading first, then reflecting, and then ease into writing. Clovy app was designed as an original character in Adobe Illustrator & vibe coded in Lovable by Dr. Sonia Tiwari.
Learning Goals
Children and their families can improve their self-expression experiences and creative writing skills by slowing down and narrowing focus progressively. After reading a whole poem, workshop participants select one line that spoke to them the most and then reflecting on what drew them to those lines. They will practice personal response writing by connecting a poet's words to their own memories, emotions, and images. They will then build creative writing confidence by using that personal response as a springboard for composing their own original nature poem. The experience moves from reading to feeling to making, which makes the process of writing more enjoyable and easier to begin.
How to Interact
Step 1: Welcome You arrive on the home screen with Clovy, a friendly lucky clover guide. Poems are organized into five nature categories: Fruits and Harvest, Flowers and Plants, Earth and Water, Sky and Weather, and Nature's Elements. Tap any emoji to open a poem.
Step 2: Discovery The poem is displayed as grouped sentences. Read through it, then tap the sentence or line that resonates most with you. When you find your line, tap "This line glows for me" to move forward.
Step 3: Heart-Talk (Reflection) Your chosen line is shown at the top as a quote. Write freely in response to the prompt "My heart feels..." You have up to 100 words. A leaf counter and progress bar fill up as you write. When you are ready, tap "Plant my reflection."
Step 4: The New Seed (Creation) Your reflection is summarized at the top as a keepsake. A large open writing space invites you to write your own original nature poem, inspired by everything you just experienced. When finished, tap "Download My Poem" to save your reflection and poem as a .txt file. You can also tap "Start a new journey" to pick a new poem and begin again.
