Donutty
Hello Lovelies!
Let me tell you about the day Mrs. Donutty rolled into the fair..
My neighbor Mrs. Donutty is the sweetest glazed donut you will ever meet, round and golden with rainbow sprinkles and the warmest smile in all of Makerville. Her little Sugarboogers, tiny sticky sugar-dusted tots with wobbly fast feet, absolutely ZOOMED everywhere.
But when the Makerville Town Fair came around, Mrs. Donutty got stuck at every bumpy cobblestone path while her Sugarboogers disappeared into the crowd.
"I just want to see the balloon toss WITH my babies!" she sighed.
“Awww! Let’s figure out a way to make that happen!”, I said.
I called Grandpa Underroot, who scratched his beard and said, "Hmm, what if we built her a smooth rolling lane through the whole fair?"
Sillijoi squealed, "Ooooh I will draw the blueprints, even if they look like spaghetti!"
Rainbow wagged his rainbow tail encouragingly.
We tested the first prototype and whoooops, the lane curved directly into the pie-throwing booth, covering everyone in….
blueberry filling MESS!
We fixed the curves, smoothed every bump, and lined the path with fairy lights.
Mrs. Donutty rolled right through, grabbed three Sugarboogers mid-zoom, and laughed the biggest sugary laugh. "This fair just got SWEETER!" she cheered.
Love,
Oki Pie
Reflection Prompt
Mrs. Donutty felt lonely and left out at first. Let us feel that together and turn it into something beautiful!
Step 1 - Humming: Hum a slow, wobbly tune, like a donut rolling gently over bumpy ground. Let your voice go up and down like little hills.
Step 2 - Mark-making: Now draw one long, curvy, wobbly line across your paper that follows your humming. Let your hand be as slow and wiggly as your voice!
Step 3 - Collage Hug: Find a scrap of colorful paper, a tissue, or a tiny bit of playdough. Place it somewhere along your wobbly line to give it a warm hug, just like Makerville hugged Mrs. Donutty.
There are no mistakes in Makerville, lovelies!
Analog Design Challenge
Mrs. Donutty needs a smooth path so she can roll alongside her Sugarboogers at the fair! Can YOU be her Makerville engineer?
Your Mission: Build a mini rolling lane for a round object, like a bottle cap or a small ball, using only found objects!
Materials to grab:
Cardboard strips or a flattened cereal box
Tape
Toilet paper rolls as little ramp legs
Leaves or fabric scraps to smooth out the bumps
The Prompt: Can you build a lane that lets your round object roll from START to FINISH without falling off? What will you use to keep the edges from tipping? What will you add to make it fair-friendly and fun?
Make it work, make it wobbly, make it YOURS!
Digital Design Challenge
Ready to go PRO, Makerville Engineer?
Your Mission: Head to Tinkercad, just like the brilliant builders of Techtonia would, and design a 3D-printable smooth rolling path tile for Mrs. Donutty. Think about curved edges, smooth surfaces, and little side rails so she never rolls off course!
Challenge Add-on: Can you design the tile so multiple tiles snap together, letting the path grow as long as the whole fair?
Label your parts like a real engineer: Rail, Surface, Connector Snap, and Fairy Light Groove!
Safety Check: Ask a Grown-up Maker before using a 3D printer. Techtonians always work in teams!
