Cloudia

Hello Lovelies,

Here's a story about the tiny resting place for a rockstar cloud!

My friend Cloudia is the most famous cloud on Planet Quirk. I first met her through Rainbow Skyriver, where she once floated by during a music festival and we waved at each other until we became pen pals.

Cloudia has a magnificent rainbow mohawk that crackles with tiny lightning bolts when she plays guitar, and she can shrink herself down to the size of a walnut whenever she needs to. She lives above the Rainbow Skyriver, performing sold-out concerts for thousands of cheering fans. But here is the secret nobody knew: after every single show, Cloudia was absolutely, completely, totally exhausted.

"Oki," she wrote to me one day, "I love my fans but I need somewhere teensy and quiet to just FLOP."

Sillijoi waved her eraser end and shouted, "Ooh! We could wrap her in a giant bouncy bubble!" I shook my head.

Grandpa Underroot suggested building a tiny rocket to shoot her to a quiet moon, which made Rainbow bark with laughter.

Then I had it.

We found a soft hollow inside an old oak tree in Makerville, sanded a walnut shell smooth, and lined it with the fluffiest cloud-cotton scraps Sillijoi had in her art bag.

During the first test, Sillijoi accidentally glued the shell shut and Cloudia got stuck inside, giggling so hard she sparked tiny rainbows everywhere.

We fixed the hinge, added a little moss pillow, and it was perfect. Cloudia shrunk down, tucked herself in, and sighed the longest, happiest sigh.

"This," she whispered, "is my favorite stage of all."

Love,

Oki Pie

Reflection Prompt

Cloudia feels so cozy and relieved at the end of this story. That is a Harmony Loop feeling, soft and warm like a big hug.

Step 1 - Humming: Hum the quietest, sleepiest little tune you can. Imagine you are a tiny cloud curling up inside a walnut shell. How slow can your hum go?

Step 2 - Mark-making: Now pick up a crayon and draw one long, curvy, slow line across your paper. Let your line wiggle the way your hum sounds. There are no mistakes in Makerville!

Step 3 - Clay or Collage: Tear a tiny scrap of soft paper or roll a little ball of playdough. Place it right on top of your curvy line, like a cozy pillow for your drawing. Give it a gentle pat.

Analog Design Challenge

Cloudia needs her own tiny hideaway! Can YOU build a cozy resting pod for a very small, very tired rockstar?

Your Materials Toolkit:

  • One walnut shell, an egg carton cup, or a small bottle cap for the bed

  • Cotton balls, tissue paper, or a scrap of soft fabric for the lining

  • A toilet paper roll or a small cardboard tube for the hollow tree

  • Tape, glue, or rubber bands to hold it all together

  • Leaves, twigs, or stickers to decorate the outside

Your Challenge: Build Cloudia's Hideaway Tree using your cardboard tube as the tree hollow. Tuck your tiny shell bed inside. Can you make a little door that opens and closes so Cloudia can get in and out without getting stuck like she did the first time? What will you use for a hinge?

Digital Design Challenge

Ready to go Pro, Makerville Maker?

Cloudia's hideaway deserves a real blueprint! Head to Tinkercad (a free, beginner-friendly CAD tool loved all across Techtonia) and design a 3D-printable Walnut Shell Bed with a hinged lid. Think about how small it needs to be for a shrunk-down Cloudia, and add a tiny moss-textured pattern on the inside walls.

Label your parts like a real Techtonia Engineer:

  • The Shell Base

  • The Hinged Lid

  • The Pillow Pocket

  • The Moss Lining Texture

When your design is ready, you can 3D print it in soft white or pastel filament for the dreamiest result.

Safety Check: Ask a Grown-up Maker to help you with the 3D printer. Hot nozzles are not for little fingers, only for big helper hands!
